The eastern part of the municipality of Assinie is a peninsula about 15 km long and 100 to 1,000 metres wide, between the ocean and the lagoon. The lagoon reaches the sea through the narrow, shallow Assinie pass. See also our beaches page.
What we removed
A previous version of this page mentioned sea otters, more than 200 bird species, turtle nesting between October and March and coral reefs. We found no source for any of them, so they are gone. The one figure we can source for birds is 128 species recorded in the Ehotilé Islands National Park.
